The people of Burson-Marsteller, drives a Decalogue for Crisis Communications is interesting. This is the content:
1. Do not speculate. The first hours of a crisis characterized by lack of information and the unreliability of the data. Should be informed on what is known and what is being done to address the situation, but not to venture hypotheses not hold data. But speculation does not stop others from doing so. To rumors or misinformation must respond quickly and ponderously.
2. Do not apply a “cerrojazo information.” Although in principle it seems contradictory to the above advice, the “official” sources in a crisis, the company or entity that has or who is responsible for its management, must be permanently affordable to the media. Better to say “no new information” that “no information”. If the immediate sources give no information, the media will seek other partners.
3. No lie. Never. Never. If, inadvertently or accidentally given the wrong information, take prompt action to correct it. Once broken the credibility with the media and society is impossible to recover. Read the rest of this entry »
